About Blackie’s Fund

Blackie’s Fund was created in memory of Blackie, a senior retriever mix, adopted in 2017. Blackie came from a background of neglect and instability, yet he was always able to find the good in people and overcome his past maltreatment. He touched many hearts and taught us to appreciate each moment. He showed that, with good care, an aging dog can flourish. The fund provides financial assistance to a selection of Speaking of Dogs Rescue programs and scenarios.

Monies from Blackie’s Fund are utilized for:

  1. Medical cases for dogs within our rescue who require considerable veterinary care and/or other investment to support their well-being.
  2. Medical cases referred to us by other reputable dog rescues.
  3. Medical cases referred to us by a licensed Ontario, Quebec, or Manitoba veterinarian.
  4. Speaking of Dogs Rescue activities regarding the transfer (i.e. flights) of dogs from remote northern communities for the purpose of adoption.
  5. The Leg-Up Sponsorship Program.

The Goal of Blackie’s Fund is to:

  1. Support senior dogs who need medical attention and intervention to live in caring homes (this may include providing specialized equipment that enhances the health and well-being of dogs, such as special harnesses, or wheeled carts).
  2. Financially support dogs who require immediate medical attention and intervention.
  3. Financially support Speaking of Dogs Rescue programs that help dogs in vulnerable situations.
  4. Support collaborative efforts amongst reputable dog rescue organizations.
